Common Conditions Treated by Chiropractic

Low Back Pain: Mechanical low back pain is one of the most common conditions managed by chiropractic treatment. Chiropractic treatment is recommended by NICE (National Institute of Clinical Excellence) - the NHS think-tank. It has been proven effective for the management of both acute (i.e. lasting less than 6 weeks) and chronic (lasting more than 6 weeks) low back pain.

Neck Pain and Whiplash: Neck and Shoulder pain relating to the neck have been shown to be effectively treated by chiropractic. Whiplash associated conditions also respond very well to chiropractic treatment, the sooner the better is the golden rule relating to whiplash.

Sciatica: Sciatica means leg pain and has many causes. When back problems put pressure on the sciatic nerve, which runs down the back of the leg, the result is pain in the lower back, buttocks, hip, and back of the leg and possibly all the way down to the toes. There can also be a sensation of pins and needles into the leg and foot or just a feeling of heaviness in the legs. The most common causes are disc protrusions (slipped disc) and muscle spasm in the buttock. Chiropractic treatment is effective at managing the causes of sciatica.

Jaw (Temporomandibular Joint) Problems and Headaches: Pain or clicking in the jaw, grinding teeth and decreased jaw movement are likely to indicate a jaw problem. However other more distant symptoms such as headaches, neck, shoulder and back pain, facial pain, ear pain, dizziness and tinnitus are also commonly associated with jaw problems. Chiropractors specialise in treating all joints of the body including the TMJ and alongside cranial treatment we can effectively manage jaw problems and headaches.
